Avaaz is an organization that deals with of issues affecting climate change, animal, and human rights, poverty, corruption, and conflict. It is a progressive NGO that came into existence in January 2007 and has its headquarters in the U.S.

According to Guardian, Avaaz is the world’s largest and most influential Internet activist community. The name ‘Avaaz’ is symbolic and stands for ‘voice.’ The organization operates through Petitions, independent press in conflicting areas, and demonstrations.

The force behind the formation of the revolution is called Res Publica – a group of professionals dedicated to seeing good governance and deliberate democracy.

The executive director and president of the group is Ricken Patel; a man with a rich background in Philosophy, Economics, and Politics; areas he studied at Balliol College, Oxford University. More to that, Ricken has a master’s degree in Public Policy from Harvard. The director is recognized for his ability to mediate between conflicting forces and ensure peaceful and credible elections. He is committed to changing the face of democracy in the world.

Something interesting about Avaaz is the fact that it doesn’t accept donations from foundations and corporations. The maximum payment accepted is $5,000. So how does it get by? The NGO relies on the generosity of its members, who don’t disappoint. So far, they have raised a whopping $20m to support the organization’s mission.

Avaaz has over 44 million members in over 194 countries worldwide. A group of activists – in 30 of the countries, manages its campaigns. These countries include Lebanon, Brazil, UK, and India. The organization communicates with members through email.Their campaigning tactics include videos, email-your-leader tools, and public petitions. Avaaz’s larger vision is to bring practical idealists together and give them a voice to help them engage in the most efficient ways. Avaaz believes the world can be what you want, but it takes a combined effort to achieve that.
